The event brought over 800 participants from all over the world together in Vienna\, including representatives from over 30 space agencies. A key policy outcome of UNISPACE+50 was the international community’s agreement\, endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/73/91)\, to establish a Space2030 agenda. The Space2030 agenda is envisioned as a comprehensive strategy for reaffirming and strengthening the contribution of space activities and technologies to the achievement of global agendas such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development\, the Paris Agreement and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. \n\n\n\n\nUniqueness\nLaunching in November 2019\, the WORLD SPACE FORUM is a new event series hosted by the United Nations that is built on the recommendations generated at three High-Level Fora held from 2016 to 2018.The sequence of Fora demonstrated the growing interest of an increasing number of actors in discussing the future of space and of international cooperation along the pillars of space economy\, space society\, space accessibility and space diplomacy. \nThe United Nations aims to leverage innovative solutions and technological developments to realise common sustainable development goals\, and attention is increasingly placed on the unique potential of space technologies in this endeavour. It is therefore important to build on the outcomes of UNISPACE+50 and take advantage of the momentum it generated to ensure that the current exchanges fully capture the political\, legal and capacity building elements of international cooperation in space exploration. \nAs we look ahead to the future and welcome more actors to the space arena\, international cooperation for a sustainable space environment is essential. Together with its partners\, the United Nations stands ready to facilitate productive and impactful international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space. \nAs the only Office in the United Nations system that deals exclusively with the peaceful uses of outer space\, UNOOSA is in a unique position to bring together all relevant stakeholders to make a difference and to ensure that the benefits of space are available to the broadest possible user base\, in all countries around the world. \nThe United Nations / Austria WORLD SPACE FORUM will therefore focus on ‘Access to Space4All’\, with the goal of leveraging space technologies to their full potential in order to achieve sustainable economic and social development globally. \nWho should attend\n\nThe  WORLD SPACE FORUM in Vienna will bring together experts and policymakers from regional\, national and local institutions\, private organizations\, academic institutions\, non-governmental organizations and international organizations\, who will exchange views on the four pillars of  space economy\, space society\, space accessibility and space diplomacy.

It has been organized in Graz since 1994\, marking this year the 25 th anniversary of the first Symposium entitled “Enhancing Social\, Economic and Environmental Security through Space Technology”. The topic proposed for this year is “Space: A tool for Accessibility\, Diplomacy and Cooperation”. It will build upon the past 24 years of UN/Austria Symposia\, using some of the four pillars developed during the preparatory process for the UNISPACE+50 anniversary event in June 2018 to structure the sessions\, in particular\, Space Diplomacy and Space Accessibility: \n\n Space Diplomacy will aim at providing a view of how space is a tool for cooperation and diplomacy. Therefore\, a session focused on those aspects will be included. This session is an opportunity for the diplomatic community to provide examples of how space is used in their respective countries and showcase this use for development and cooperation\, and how cooperation with other countries or international organizations has contributed to the development of space activities.\nSpace Accessibility relates to the use by all communities of space data and technology.  Space Accessibility is a two-way avenue\, on one hand\, it requires the availability of systems and that can be accessed by of user communities. It is quite common that users are not aware of the availability or the capabilities space-based services. On the other hand\, Space Accessibility requires understanding the needs and capabilities of the people who will be using space-based services\, the design of these services\, requires understanding of what users need. will aim at providing a view on user needs and solutions. The block devoted to solutions will be split in two subtopics\, namely space derived services for development and global solutions for local problems.\n\nThe main objective of this symposium is to foster dialogue between the diplomatic community and those communities using space\, exploring ways to utilize space related activities and services as a tool for diplomacy\, and cooperation\, stimulating access to space related services that are available and accessible by different countries.

SUMMARY:AGIT and GI_Forum 2019 - The Spatial View
DESCRIPTION:Geographic Information Science as a science and Geoinformatics as its methodology are not focused on any particular subject domain\, but rather on a perspective. As a transversal discipline\, an explicitly spatial view is applied to economy\, society and the environment. Across traditionally “spatial” subjects\, such as planning\, resource management and logistics\, GIS have long been established. Others\, such as the humanities\, currently experience the additional benefit of a “spatial turn”. Geoinformatics today provides an increasingly integral and highly important approach far beyond the typical “geo-disciplines”\, by generating added value to information and knowledge through the spatial perspective\, thus enabling better decision-making processes. \nGI_Forum and AGIT provide an international respectively national platform for dialogue among geospatial minds\, creating an informed GeoInformation Society\, hoping to contribute to a more just\, ethical and sustainable society. Prominent keynote speakers will highlight new developments\, offer visionary insights into trends and developments\, and at the same time be individually accessible for our Young Researchers. The two symposia share the innovative AGIT EXPO exhibit and stimulating social Events.

DESCRIPTION:DIGITAL | EARTH | OBSERVATION \n\nSatellite image processing used to be digital from early on. Still\, since digital image processing of Landsat imagery started in the early 1970ies\, the workflows used to bear a significant share of ‘manual’ data manipulation\, including storage\, pre-processing\, and supervised classification. Only today\, with heavily increased computing power\, cloud storage and processing systems\, as well as automated information extraction\, the workflows experience disruptive changes which both the scientific community and the Earth observation service industry have to cope with.\n\n\n\n\n\nBut ‘digital’ refers to more than an increased level of workflow automation. In fact it encompasses the greater societal and technological transformations we are facing in the way how massive (‘big’) data\, including satellite-borne data\, is being conditioned\, exploited and combined with other big data sources\, and delivered in near real-time to users in highly integrated information products.

This symposium focuses on how Earth Observation contributes to science and society\, and how disruptive technologies and actors are changing the traditional Earth Observation landscape\, which is also creating new opportunities for public and private sector interactions. \nAttracting thousands of scientists and data users\, ESA’s Living Planet Symposia are amongst the biggest Earth observation conferences in the world. For decades now Earth observation has played a fundamental role in advancing our understanding of how our planet works and how it is being affected by climate change. While the need to continue to advance our knowledge and monitor global change remains paramount\, Earth observation has entered a new era where it is playing a key role in a myriad of everyday applications to improve daily lives and is also becoming increasingly relevant for the competitive business sector. \nThe event will not only see scientists present their latest findings on Earth’s environment and climate derived from satellite data\, but will also focus on Earth observation’s role in building a sustainable future and a resilient society.
